Beginners Guide to Affiliate Marketing
There are so many ways for someone to earn money on the internet. One of them is called affiliate marketing and it is extremely effective if done properly. In a nutshell, affiliate marketing is where you the marketer, promote products or a service for someone else and in return you get commission for any sales you drive via your affiliate link/page.
Affiliate marketing is a revenue sharing agreement between a product developer, called the affiliate merchant, and the affiliate marketer who must be a person willing to promote and advertise products using any type of legal means there are.
The affiliate relationship is simple and allows the affiliate merchant to increase their earnings by paying only for the advertising that results in a sale. The affiliate marketer will earn by making a percentage or a certain amount on a sale that he doesn’t have to manage after the sale.
Making the money and getting the money depends on how the affiliate program is set up. Some merchants will run their own affiliate program. They usually have some software that help assigns each affiliate marketer a special link which is used in the promoting or advertising of the product. The software will help track sales of every marketer and the affiliate merchant will pay commissions on a periodic basis using checkouts, PayPal or other means.
How much money can an affiliate make by marketing other peoples products? This will all boil down to which products you choose to sell and that people have a desire to buy online. My advice is to try as many as possible until you find a money maker, you can only strike out so many times before you hit a home run.
With that being said it would be best to pick a product that you would be proud to promote and that would not be embarrassing. Think about if your parents asked you what you were promoting online to generate that extra income, would you like to be able to tell them?
If you are starting out as an affiliate marketer I would recommend that you choose a product that you are comfortable with, something that you already know about. This will make things easier when writing articles or ads. As you get more understanding on how to promote stuff you can move on to other products.
It would also be wise to only promote products and services for companies who have gone through the trouble to provide you with affiliate tools and sales aids such as banners and other marketing materials that you can use.
Commission rates vary, the majority of digital products and software though are around the 50% mark which is very common.
With Affiliate marketing, in the beginning, it may take a little while to start earning, so you will need to be patient. Some affiliate programs may require a limit before the payout, so you need to work on it more. There are affiliate programs that do not require sales. In some cases, affiliate programs will only require visitors to sign up or register, fill out a survey form or download something. If this is easier for you, you can also find affiliate programs of this kind.
